Bio pesticides
Bio pesticides are biochemical pesticides that are naturally occurring substances, which control pests by non-toxic mechanisms. These pesticides are derived from natural materials, plants, and microbial and animal origins.According to the origin of the material, the bio pesticides are classified as
- Microbial Pesticides
Microbial pesticides consist of a microorganism (bacteria, fungal, virus or protozoa) as the active ingredient. These are pest specific. - Biochemical Pesticides
Biochemical pesticides are naturally occurring substances that control pests by non-toxic mechanisms. The sex pheromones, which affect the pests mating, and plant extracts which can be used as a pest trap are example for Biochemical pesticides. Secondary metabolites like Alkaloids, terpinoids, and phenolics from various plants are used as Biochemical pesticides in our area. You can prepare these biochemical pesticides in your farm itself. Read our do it yours sectionof this website for more details.
- Bio pesticides are usually inherently less toxic than conventional pesticide.
- Bio pesticides generally affect only the target pest and closely related organisms, in contrast to broad-spectrum conventional pesticides that may affect organisms as different as birds, insects and mammals including humans.
- Bio pesticides often are effective in very small quantities and often decompose very quickly, there by resulting in lower exposures and largely avoiding the pollution problems caused by the conventional pesticides.
- Verticillium lecani
Verticillium lecani is an entomopathogenic fungus. All sucking pests like, aphids, jassids, mealybugs, white flies, mites etc. can be controlled by Verticillium lecani.
Mode of action: Entry of fungal hyphae into insect body, parasitisation and sporulation and killing of insects in about 5 to 7 days. - Beauveria bassiana
Beauveria bassiana. is an entomopathogenic fungus which can contoll all verities of borers, thrips etc.
Mode of action: Digesting of insect cuticle enzymatically by fungus and parasitisation, and control of insects in about 5 to 7 days. - Paecilomyces lilacinus
Paecilomyces lilacinus is an entomopathogenic fungus which can be used to control all types of nematodes.

Biofungicide based on Trichoderma viride and Harzianum:can be used for the control of soil-borne fungal diseases such as root rot caused by organisms like Fusarium etc. - Pseudomonas
Biofungicide based on Pseudomonas fluorescens can be used for the control of all foliar diseases. Also acts as growth promoter by secreting growth factors. - Trichoderma and Paecilomyces
Combination of Trichoderma and Paecilomyces for the combined control of fungal pathogens and nematodes in soil.
